my dad got me a dell without even telling me about it so oh well, but it has a pos graphics card in it...so i was wondering if it can be upgraded? i asked my dad if he knew because he bought it and he said he didn't think so. and hes not the most intelligent person with comps so i was wondering if any of you guys knew. thanks.

i don't think you can upgrade brand named comps like that, because they make their own special stuff to go in their comps...basicly so they can keep making money even after you buy the comp.

no that isn't true, dell doesn't make their own mobo's, but they do make their own cases, which are not standard size, so if you want toget a new mobo, you will probably have to get a new case.

but if your just upgrading your graphics card, you won't have a problem. what type of graphics card do you have now?

you can upgrade any computer no matter what brand..more than likely the dell u have has a onboard video which means the agp slot is open for whatever video card you wanna put in there

Just make sure you have an AGP slot open on the motherboard.

I'm sure you can find out by going to dell.com, and putting in your serial number or order number or whatever, it should bring the specs about your computer up so that you can see what you have and don't have. Or, that's the way gateway.com works anyway.

My mom bought a Gateway computer, and it doesn't have an AGP slot at all... so when the guys above me said they're always upgradable, that isn't always the case, but yours more than likely is.

    my dad owns a dell.

    its a pos

but anyways.. the main thing you cant upgrade with mutt stuff is the RAM and processor and MB..
if you try to replace those, it wont work, dell has their own sizes, etc.

but you CAN replace the video card.
i replaced my dads with a Ti4600 128MB nVidia card.
    it works fine.
    just do it right.

now if only i could get my dad off of the NTSF format.

I may be wrong, but PCI Express is a type of new motherboard introduced by Intel a few months back.

I could get a PCI video card, but she really doesn't need any other video besides the integrated, I was just letting them know my experiences with companies like Gateway and Dell.

    pci express arent out yet.
i think you get them in november.
those slots will be high speed.
so if you get a mother board, wait a bit and get a PCI express sloted one.

otherwise, get a PCI card, since you have alot of PCI slots.
it should work with the DELL.
